What would this look like if it were easy?

I spend a lot of my time asking myself multiple "hard" questions in pursuit of being the "best business I can be" - whilst being remote.
Fortuitously, as seems to be the case at present with all this Blinkist reading I'm doing, this week that I also stumbled across an extract from, Tribe of Mentors: Short Life Advice from the Best in the World, by Tim Ferriss. He described a similar situation, full of complex questions and stress. Then in a moment of insight, he asked himself one simple question.
"What would this look like if it was easy?"
In a flash of insight, I recalled some pieces in the Steve Jobs book where he talks about [paraphrased] simplicity being part of design, but that to get to simplicity one must remove the complexity by thinking differently. He also said that design must be as good on the inside as it is on the outside for it to be truly simple. We can all run businesses that appears shiny on the outside and looks good on social media; but what I believe really matters is having the right systems and processes to facilitate a well run organisation through thinking about things in a different way.
Having an easy to run business, leaves you with time and energy to focus on your core task at the front end - because it's easy. In Job's case this was creating the next Apple product. In my case, it's delivering at my best with each client. Also, as a coach who likes to utilise NeuroLeadership techniques and thinking questions, I have definitely added this insight generating question to my repertoire.
Tim Ferriss has often been someone who I have looked to for example but this one quote seems to embody all of the approaches, tools and techniques I have learned over my years. Lean, Kaizen, 6Sigma, Operational Excellence, Change Management, Problem Solving, Strategy. They can all be distilled down to this one simple question and progress be made. We can gain clarity on the priorities and best avenues forward.
So try it! Take a problem or issue you are wrangling with, and ask yourself,
"What would this look like if it was easy?"
